Dans cette nature morte singulière, Cédric Diomède met en scène la figure du singe, assis près d'un chrysanthème, dans une composition chargée de résonances symboliques. Le singe s'inscrit dans une tradition iconographique complexe. Selon une lecture issue du Livre des symboles, il « incarne le triste état de l'humanité tiraillée entre, d'une part, l'amoralité et la littéralité de l'expression intellectuelle, de l'autre, l'aspiration à l'évolution sociale et émotionnelle. » Le chrysanthème, fleur associée à la mémoire, au cycle de la vie et à la fragilité du temps, introduit une dimension introspective, presque méditative.

Réalisée sur papier ancien, l'œuvre bénéficie d'une matérialité particulière et participe à l'atmosphère intemporelle de la scène, entre nature morte et allégorie.

In this singular still life, Cédric Diomède stages the figure of a monkey, seated beside a chrysanthemum, within a composition that is both silent and imbued with symbolic resonance. The monkey is embedded within a complex iconographic tradition. According to an interpretation drawn from The Book of Symbols, it “embodies the sorrowful state of humanity, torn between, on the one hand, the amorality and literalness of intellectual expression and, on the other, the aspiration toward social and emotional evolution.” The chrysanthemum - a flower associated with memory, the cycle of life, and the fragility of time - introduces a contemplative, almost meditative dimension.

Executed on antique paper, the work possesses a distinctive materiality that contributes to the scene’s timeless atmosphere, poised between still life and allegory.
